VOLUNTEER

In addition to providing resources for the schools and teachers, we directly interact with school districts near us. The members of our club visit the school and assist teachers in whatever tasks they need support in, from cutting out stencils for the art classes to helping the kids with their programming application.

WHERE WILL VOLUNTEERING BE?

Since schedules will be changing to Tiger PAWS, we will be volunteering at Blue Valley Middle School.

We also provide a shorter volunteer opportunity after school Wednesdays at Stanley Elementary School.

We will be giving opportunities to volunteer at elementary school carnivals.

In addition to these weekly volunteer trips, we plan on going larger trips monthly or bi-monthly to volunteer with organizations like Kansas City Teacher Agency or Operation Breakthrough. If we volunteer at Worlds of Fun, we can raise money for the club and these specific organizations.

WHEN WILL VOLUNTEERING BE?

We'll be going Thursday mornings weekly to volunteer at middle schools. We understand that both in-school and out-of-school activities can get a bit crazy after school, not allowing you to go to as many clubs as you would like. Going Thursday mornings can solve this issue for many people.

We enjoy our beauty sleep just as much as you! However, we encourage you to give it up, at least once per semester.

Stanley Elementary outings will be Wednesday after school weekly. You'll be released 10 minutes before school ends to beat the traffic.

We are requiring that you volunteer at least twice a semester. We do want you to be active in the club.

Also, we'll be having sign-ins at meetings, and we will be keeping track of how many meetings you attend. We're not super strict! Just let one of the board members know if you can't make a meeting, and we can update you on what was said in the meeting. We're just making sure we aren't having inactive members.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU HAVE TO VOLUNTEER?

You must provide your own rides to the middle school and to the high school after volunteering. Keep in mind that carpooling can save some time and energy!

Bring your backpack — they will have an area for you to put them while you volunteer.

If you're interested in any landscaping work in BVMS' courtyard, wear the appropriate clothing for landscaping.

Get there at 7:40 and leave at 8:30.

VOLUNTEER SPECIFICS: THURSDAYS

We will release you at 2:50. Mrs. Farrow will send an e-mail to your teacher.

Leave your backpacks at the high school.

Go to the office ASAP and find Mrs. Wadley. Sometimes she loses track of time so make sure to find her.

She'll take you in a van over to Stanley Elementary School, and you'll be assigned to classrooms or recess. Bring a jacket in case you're assigned to recess!

Leave the classroom at 3:30. Find Mrs. Farrow —we'll let you know where she is.

VOLUNTEER SPECIFICS: WEDNESDAYS

Be off your phone! The students at the schools we volunteer at see us as the representation of Blue Valley High School.

This is not a time to socialize with friends, so don't. You can do that later.

Follow teachers' instructions. They know best.

Have fun!
